Charles Arthur Markus was born on June 24, 1939 in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio where he was raised.  He graduated from Cuyahoga Heights High School in 1957 and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Education at the University of Buffalo and a Master’s in Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He began teaching students in Business courses at Frontier Central High School in September of 1961. When Amsdell Junior High was opened, he moved there and spent the majority of his 36½ year teaching career there. He started an Elementary Keyboarding program and for six years spent part of each day traveling to each of the elementary buildings and teaching 3 rd graders to type using laptop computers that he rolled from classroom to classroom on a cart.  He was an active member of the Business Educators Association of New York State.

Charley was an avid Model Railroader and enjoyed inviting people to see and run his elaborate train layout.  He moved the layout from his Parkside Avenue home to The Villages of Mission Hills Senior apartment complex and continued to hold sessions there until the day before he died.

He was a Stephen Minister at the Venice UCC in Venice, FL and then became trained as their Stephen Minister Leader where he trained and administered the program until his death. Charley wrote and published a book, The Kids from Brooklyn Heights, a series of children’s stories based on biblical parables.

He and his beloved wife, Helen, enjoyed reading, spending time with family and treasured friends and traveling.  They had visited all 50 states together during their 30-year marriage.

Charley died very suddenly on September 14, 2018 at the age of 79.  He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Helen; sons, Keith (Anru Lee) and Darrell and stepson Michael Wiltberger (Holly Batal) He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Susanne Wiltberger.

There will be a celebration of Charley’s life on Friday, September 21, at 4 pm at the Community Building (#36) at The Villages of Mission Hills, 4543 Camp Road, Hamburg, NY 14075
