CITY FOREST MANAGER CITY OF MONTESANO, WASHINGTON The City of Montesano is seeking a Forester to provide management of the 5,500-acre Chapin Collins Memorial Forest, as well as historically providing professional forest management services to the cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam which amounts to the oversight of an additional 8,000 acres. Duties cover the full range of forest management activities, including preparation and administration of contracts for required forestry work such as timber sales, forest thinning, tree planting, site preparation, animal damage control, road and trail construction and maintenance. The position maintains and updates the forest inventory, monitors the success of planting and stand regeneration, and develops forest management plans. Other duties include preparation of bid calls, maintaining records, obtaining required permits, reviewing hazard trees and other projects as determined by the Mayor. The position reports to the Mayor, and works closely with the City Council. The salary range is $90,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on qualifications. QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must have outstanding communication skills and must be a self-starter. The position requires a minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in Forestry or closely related field and five years practical forest management experience. Extra consideration will be given to applicants who are Certified Foresters through the Society of American Foresters. Must be experienced in budget and financial considerations, must have proficient knowledge of computer systems, including GIS and GPS. Must have experience using hand tools and forest herbicides.
