NOTICE OF INTENT TO BEGIN INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT PLAN ACTIVITY In accordance with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM), Homer Soil and Water Conservation District (HSWCD) plans to use herbicide as a control tool to reduce invasive bird vetch (Vicia cracca), white sweetclover (Melilotus alba), orange hawkweed (Hieracium aurantiacum), narrowleaf hawkweed (Hieracium umbellatum), meadow hawkweed (Hieracium caespitosum), creeping thistle (Cirsium arvense), oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea), common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), and European bird cherry (Prunus padus) at selected sites. Treatments may occur on infestations within the state road right-of-way at: 1) Portage Highway mileposts (MP) 0-3, 5-6, at tunnel, Whittier campground, and City Park; 2) Hope Highway MP 0-1, 8.5, 10, 15-18; 3) Seward Highway MP 25-34, 51-63, 66-68, 70-79; 4) Sterling Highway MP 42-72, 78, 87-98, 107-108, 135; 5) Snug Harbor MP 0-1.5; 6) Funny River Rd @ Industrial St; 7) Kenai Spur Highway MP 7-15, 24-25; 8) entire Bridge Access Rd; 9) Cannery Rd; 10) K-Beach Rd MP 2-5.5; 11) Stariski Creek Wayside; 12) Herman Leirer Rd MP 4; 13) Nash Rd @ Resurrection Bay Rd; 14) Old Sterling Hwy @ Anchor Pt Beach Rd; 15) Danver St between Anchor Point Rd and Desa Ave; 16) North Fork Rd MP 4.5; 17) Pioneer Ave at Bartlett St; 18)FAA Road; 19) East Hill Rd; 20) East End Rd MP 1.5, 3, 4, 6-6.5, 13. RoundUp Custom (EPA No. 524-343), or Milestone (EPA No. 62719-519) will be applied by certified applicators using hand-held equipment. Specific locations within infested areas will be identified and spot-sprayed following notice to the Alaska Dept. of Environmental Conservation. Each location will be posted with appropriate signage. Treatments will occur between May 15th and October 31st of 2023. Some locations may require two applications.
